Your body is meant to move. It’s that simple. Movement of any kind- from basic stretching to intense cardio- releases endorphins and helps keep your mind and body healthy. Developing an active exercise mindset doesn’t have to be hard though. Here are 9 easy tips for you to get started!
1) Find an activity you enjoy: If you hate running, don’t run. Find a physical activity you enjoy instead- whether it’s hiking, swimming, dancing, or biking. When you enjoy doing something, the likelihood of sticking with it long term increases tremendously!
2) Make time for yourself each day: Even if it’s just 10 minutes, take some time each day to focus on your own health and well-being. If you have trouble fitting it into your schedule, wake up 10 minutes earlier or do some stretches before bed.
3) Set small goals: Trying to lose 50 pounds or run a marathon can be daunting and overwhelming. Set smaller, achievable goals instead- like going for a walk 3 times per week or doing 30 minutes of cardio 3 times per week. Once you accomplish those goals, you can gradually increase the intensity or frequency.
4) Be consistent: It’s more important to be consistent with your workouts than to go all-out every once in a while and then take a long break. Doing something is better than nothing, so even if you can’t make it to the gym 5 days per week, try for 3 days per week or even just 2.
5) Find a workout buddy: If you have someone to hold you accountable and share in your success, you’re much more likely to stick with your fitness goals.
6) Invest in yourself: Whether it’s a new pair of running shoes, some cute workout clothes, or a gym membership- invest in yourself and your health. When you make that commitment, it’ll be easier to follow through.
7) Join a class: If you’re someone who likes structure and enjoys being around others while working out, sign up for a fitness class! There are tons of options available, so you’re sure to find one that’s perfect for you.
8) Make it a lifestyle: Exercise shouldn’t be something you dread or a chore you have to check off your list. Instead, try to integrate physical activity into your everyday life. Take the stairs instead of the elevator, walk or ride your bike instead of driving, and get up and move every chance you get!
9) Have fun: Remember that working out is supposed to be good for you- both physically and mentally. So make sure you’re doing something that makes you happy and don’t take yourself too seriously. At the end of the day, your health is the most important thing.
Conclusion
When it comes to developing an active exercise mindset, the key is to find what works for you and stick with it. There is no perfect formula- so experiment and find something that you enjoy and that makes you feel good. And most importantly, have fun!
